Focusing on promoting independence when able, the Caregiver-Med Tech provides all levels of care needed to promote overall wellbeing of the resident. The Caregiver-Med Tech is responsible to the Health Care Coordinator/Case Manager or his/her designee.Assists resident in their self-care initiatives to include - bathing, dressing, undressing, grooming, toileting, changing incontinence products, medication administration and reordering, blood glucose monitoring, insulin preparation and administration, assisting with mobility and ambulation, meal/eating assistance as necessary.Uses skill knowledge to assess resident's condition, i.e. taking vital signs, documentation in resident's chart, communicating concerns promptly to Health Care Coordinator or designated person.Provides assistance with instrumental activities of daily living, such as laundry, shopping, scheduling and keeping appointments, coordinating transportation, and resolving conflict and complaints.Considers total resident needs and develops prioritized daily schedule based on implications of resident needs.Notifies Health Care Coordinator, Administrator, or other appropriate supervisor of any change in resident condition or needs including physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, psychological, and behavioral status.Consistently and reliably participates in the development of, and carries out strategies identified in the residents' support plans under the direction of the Health Care Coordinator, Administrator, or other supervisor.Demonstrates resourcefulness when motivating residents to join in activities and events. Promotes neighborhood interactions.Develops a friendly, personal relationship with each resident by visiting at least 15 minutes each week, as time allows, with each resident for general non-health related conversation. Approach and demeanor with residents and staff are consistent with program goals.Works cooperatively with residents, nurses, co-workers, physicians, families, consultant personnel, and ancillary service providers.Receives and has documented 12 in-service hours per evaluation year, completes department-specific competencies; completes required mandatory education; actively participates in self-development by attending educational programs that are in addition to the required 12 annual hours of continuing education, for example: dementia, teambuilding, behavior management and fiscal responsibility.Performance Standards:Knows facility emergency procedures and assists residents during emergency situations. Reviews fire drill and emergency situations and initiates corrective action. Is responsible for the safety and security of the residents and the building. Makes rounds of building according to facility policy.Reports to work as scheduled in clean and neat attire. Demonstrates dependability and punctuality.Participates in Quality Assurance monitoring of residents' rooms and medications monthly and reports to Personal Care Case Manager. Demonstrates knowledge of state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.Performs all aspects of resident care in a professional manner, without hesitation. Behavior is consistent with honesty and integrity.Duties are performed in accordance with the policies, procedures and protocols of Newhaven Court and Lutheran Affiliated Services.Performs other duties as assigned.High school diploma or general education degree (GED) as per regulation. Must be at least 18 years of age.CPR/First Aide or successful completion after hire.
