Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time Registered
Nurse for our Emergency Department for daylight every other weekend
and variable shifts during the week. The RN - ED has the
responsibility, authority, and accountability for coordinating and
directing patient care for a specific group of patients within the
Department of Emergency Medicine. Consistently demonstrates an
ability to plan and provide professional critical care nursing care
by obtaining nursing assessment, administering medications,
monitoring life support and automated equipment, performing routine
and complex treatments and giving emergency resuscitation. This
team member has the qualifications and experience to care for
patients of all ages. Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is a 45-bed

Spring, Altoona, and parts of Blair, Bedford, and Huntingdon

Qualifications:
Essential Functions: Appropriately performs duties of triage nurse
when assigned including identifying emergent patients and
performing the quick triage process facilitating patient flow, and
hourly waiting room checks. Provides primary nursing care to all
patients assigned, functioning within a team, throughout the length
of stay in the department. Accurately identifies arrhythmias and
provides intervention according to established procedures.
Anticipates arrhythmias and complications based on knowledge of
pathophysiology takes appropriate actions as needed and
communicates information to physicians in a timely manner.
Demonstrates an ability to start IV's, administer medications and
IV fluids, assess patient's response and titrate dosages as per
physician order. Demonstrates an ability to perform cardiopulmonary
resuscitation in the ED, functions as code nurse at "CPA" situation
within the hospital and provides needed cart exchange. Manages
critically ill patients during transfer to other departments or
health care facilities. Give appropriate report to provide
continuity of care. Regularly tests monitoring equipment/alarm
systems to ensure proper functioning when needed. Demonstrates a
complete knowledge of the location, care and operation of all ED
equipment. Demonstrates appropriate safety precautions (e.g. with
invasive line, during defibrillation, etc.) and utilizes infection
control practices to minimize incidence of nosocomial infections.
Participates in special procedures and examinations performed by
the physician, prepares the patient and provides emotional support,
as required. Consistently assesses the nursing care provided in the
critical care areas and identifies any problems or needs for
improvement. Always assesses the patient's condition utilizing the
nursing process and professional judgment in individualizing
emergency nursing care. Always documents observations and
interventions, including medication and treatment therapies. Always
assesses the patients' immediate needs and priorities patient care
accordingly upon arrival to the emergency room, obtains pertinent
patient history. Notify family/S.O. of patient's progress and
includes them in plan of care, whether admitted or discharged if
applicable, i.e. minors or POA's. Participates in bedside change of
shift report. Ensures that the standards of the emergency nursing
practice are maintained. Maintain assessment, knowledge and
intuition skills when triaging patients. Continuously assesses and
improves the performance of care and service provided. Orients and
mentors new members of the team in the department. Organizational

Complies with corporate compliance guidelines and requirements of
federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Adheres to the standards of professional ethics and handles

and Medical Center policies. Provides quality care and services
consistent with Medical Center standards and participates in the
Medical Center's Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to unexpected
changes in the workload, emergencies, staffing and scheduling. Uses
tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and a professional attitude when
relating with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors.
Performs duties in a self-directed and cooperative manner with
minimal need for supervision. Uses time constructively for maximum
productivity. Treats all co-workers, patients, families, and
visitors with consideration to their rights, cultural diversity,
privacy, comfort and emotional needs. Serves as a patient advocate

Attends all mandatory trainings and completes all required Life
Talent education assignments within a timely manner. Keeps updated
regarding Medical Center changes through meeting attendance and
review of posted information; attends briefs, debriefs, and
huddles. Abides by and references the Employee Handbook and other
pertinent facility policies, including clinical, non-clinical,
safety, and infection control. Job Requirements: Education:
Graduate of a RN program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing
preferred. Required Licenses: Current nurse's license in the state
of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact
member states/territories required. Basic Life Support (BLS).
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or obtained within 6
months. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or obtained within 1
year. CEN is preferred. Basic Trauma Nurse Course (BTNC) or
equivalent training (ATCN, TCRN, TNCC) obtained within 1 year of
hire is required Required Skills: Requires critical thinking
skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal
supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and
take appropriate action. Must be able to work irregular hours
including call hours. Ability to care for patients of all ages
includes neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to
effectively communicate and collaborate with physicians, family
members, patients, subordinate staff, and other hospital personnel.
Analytical ability to resolve problems, develop procedures, and
